Purushottam Ekadashi holds special significance in the divine traditions of Sanatan Dharma. This sacred Ekadashi is a highly auspicious date falling in the Krishna Paksha of Purushottam month. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this Ekadashi conveys the message of making life pure and beneficial through meditation, devotion, penance, and charity.

The name ‘Purushottam’ itself evokes the Purushottam form of Lord Krishna. According to the scriptures, by observing a fast, chanting, worshipping, donating, and serving with devotion and regularity on this day, one receives the same merits as performing numerous yagnas and pilgrimages. This Ekadashi liberates one from sins and leads one on the path of righteousness, happiness, and salvation.

The Importance of Purushottam Ekadashi

According to religious beliefs, the month of Purushottam is very dear to Lord Vishnu himself, therefore, the significance of Purushottam Ekadashi falling in this month increases manifold. Worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day brings happiness, peace, prosperity, and positivity in life.

It is believed that fasting and donating on this sacred day alleviates a person’s suffering and increases happiness and good fortune in the family. Devotees who remember Lord Hari with devotion on this day receive special blessings and merit.

Charity and service are considered the highest virtuous acts in the scriptures. The Padma Purana, referring to charity, states:

Japa, charity, and austerity performed at a pilgrimage site, river bank, or specifically in a temple bestow everlasting merit.
