Success Story : Pooja Kami

The life of 25-year-old Pooja Kami, a resident of Alipurduar in West Bengal, has been filled with struggles. When she was just eight years old, she underwent surgery for a lump in her lower back. Unfortunately, the procedure was unsuccessful. A young girl who once used to run about and cherish dreams suddenly found herself forced onto the arduous path of living with a disability.

The failed surgery stunted the growth of her legs. Let alone walking or moving around, even performing routine daily tasks became a challenge for her. Her parents visited numerous hospitals and doctors in the hope of restoring her health, but they met with disappointment every time.

Time passed, yet Pooja and her family never gave up hope. Eventually, they reached Narayan Seva Sansthan. There, specialist doctors thoroughly examined her condition and successfully operated on her legs.

Today, Pooja—who was once forced to rely on others for years—stands tall on her own feet. She walks with confidence, performs her daily chores independently, and is stepping into a new life. To earn a livelihood, she works as a seamstress and continues to move steadily toward self-reliance.
