With the arrival of Ekadashi in the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, temples glow with the radiance of lamps, and the spirit of Lord Vishnu’s awakening fills the hearts of devotees. This sacred occasion is known as Dev Uthani Ekadashi. According to religious belief, Lord Vishnu awakens from His cosmic sleep on this day, marking the end of Chaturmas. Therefore, Dev Uthani Ekadashi is considered an auspicious occasion to renew our commitment to good deeds and righteous intentions.
Lord Vishnu represents preservation, protection, and compassion. Dev Uthani Ekadashi inspires us to awaken the feelings of compassion and selfless service within ourselves. On this sacred day, when we offer our devotion at the feet of Lord Vishnu and extend food, support, or kindness to someone in need, our devotion takes the form of meaningful service.
On this day, fasting, worshipping Lord Vishnu, chanting His name, worshipping Tulsi, making donations, and serving others according to one’s ability are considered virtuous acts. Connecting devotion to the Divine with compassion towards humanity makes the message of Dev Uthani Ekadashi even more meaningful.
There are many children around us who do not always have access to nutritious food. Offering a meal to a hungry and needy child on this auspicious occasion is a meaningful way to provide care, affection, and support.
With this spirit of service, Narayan Seva Sansthan is organizing a food service initiative for needy, underprivileged, helpless, and differently-abled children on the sacred occasion of Dev Uthani Ekadashi. You too can become a part of this noble initiative and help provide a nutritious and sweet meal to a child in need.
A donation becomes even more meaningful when it is made without expecting anything in return and when the needs of the recipient are given priority. In the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna describes the nature of Sattvic charity:
“Dātavyam iti yad dānaṁ dīyate ’nupakāriṇe,
deśe kāle ca pātre ca tad dānaṁ sāttvikaṁ smṛtam.”
It means that charity given as a duty, at the appropriate time and place, to a worthy recipient and without expecting anything in return is considered Sattvic charity.
By embracing this spirit on Dev Uthani Ekadashi, we can help those in need, provide food to the hungry, and become a source of support for people who need care and compassion. The true value of charity lies in fulfilling someone’s genuine needs and bringing a sense of happiness and satisfaction into their life.
On Dev Uthani Ekadashi, light lamps, remember Lord Vishnu, worship Tulsi and Shaligram, and take a pledge to donate and serve others according to your means. A small act of kindness performed on this sacred occasion can become a source of great happiness for someone in need.
Let us transform devotion into service on this auspicious festival celebrating the awakening of Lord Vishnu. Help bring food to the plate of a child in need and become a part of this noble act of serving humanity.
Your donation will help provide meals to differently-abled children.
