Kartik Purnima has great significance in Hinduism as it marks the completion of a number of rituals and celebrations. According to the Hindu calendar, every year, Kartik Purnima falls on the Shukla Paksha, full moon day, which occurs in the Kartik month. The tithi of Kartik Purnima for this year will start from 4:15 PM on November 7 to 4:31 PM on November 8, 2022.

In all the months, the Kartik month is thought to be incredibly fortunate and fruitful. According to popular belief, donating on Kartik Purnima day brings about rewards equivalent to those received from worshipping for the entire month.  The entire month of Kartik is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and on this day, hundreds of devotee chant, tap, and honor Lord Hari. Lord Vishnu is believed to have taken on the Matsya avatar in the month of Kartik. Along with worshiping Lord Vishnu, one must also revere Goddess Lakshmi.

 

Significance of Kartik Purnima

According to Hindu mythology, this Kartik Poornima day has spiritual and religious significance. The practice of Kartik Snan and devotion to Lord Vishnu on this day is thought to bestow great fortune on the devotees. Executing a Kartik Snan during the Kartik month is said to be equivalent to performing 100 Ashvamegha Yagya. In actuality, Lord Shiva defeated the unstoppable demon Tripurasur on a special chariot on the day of Kartik Purnima. The destruction of this demon allowed for the restoration of religion throughout the three worlds. Hence it is also called Tripurari Purnima and Dev Diwali is also celebrated on this day.

 

Things to donate on Kartik Purnima

According to the Matsya Purana, Kartik Purnima should be marked by fasting, and giving to the deprived right after a bath is very auspicious. According to the Purana, doing this will please Lord Bholenath and make the seeker’s life joyful. On this day, one can contribute ghee, cows, horses, chariots, and even elephants to obtain wealth. By donating gold or silver on Kartik Purnima day, one gets the auspiciousness of the Navagrahas. Food, money, and warm clothes should be donated to the needy as much as possible on this day.
