In Sanatan Dharma, Ekadashi is considered an extremely sacred and auspicious day dedicated to the worship of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. Every Ekadashi inspires devotees toward self-purification and devotion. However, when Parama Ekadashi falls during Adhik Maas (Purushottam Maas), its significance becomes even greater.

According to the Vedic Panchang, the Ekadashi Tithi of the Krishna Paksha during Adhik Maas will begin on June 11, 2026, at 12:57 AM and conclude on the same day at 10:36 PM. Based on Udaya Tithi, the Parama Ekadashi fast will be observed on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The word “Parama” means supreme or the highest. Therefore, this Ekadashi is considered especially fruitful among all Ekadashis. Religious scriptures describe this fast as a means to attain freedom from poverty and sins.
Mythological legends mention that Kubera, the god of wealth, received the blessings of Lord Shiva and attained the position of treasurer of the gods through the power of this fast. Similarly, King Harishchandra regained his lost kingdom and family due to the spiritual merit of observing Parama Ekadashi.
It is believed that anyone who observes this fast with devotion and discipline receives the spiritual merit equivalent to performing an Ashwamedha Yajna. Lord Krishna told Arjuna that devotees who worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this day attain Vaikuntha Dham after death.
On this sacred day, devotees should wake up during Brahma Muhurta, take a bath, and take a vow to observe the fast. After cleansing the home temple or worship area, idols or images of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi should be placed.
Offer yellow flowers, incense, lamps, sandalwood, Panchamrit, and fruits to the Lord. Yellow-colored sweets should be offered along with Tulsi leaves, as Lord Vishnu does not accept offerings without Tulsi.
After the worship, devotees should listen to the Parama Ekadashi Vrat Katha and recite the Vishnu Sahasranama. Chanting the mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” is considered highly auspicious.
According to religious beliefs, staying awake throughout the night in devotion is especially significant. Devotees spend the night singing bhajans, chanting mantras, and meditating on the Lord. The fast is concluded by feeding Brahmins, needy people, poor and helpless individuals, and by offering donations.
In Sanatan culture, charity is considered one of the main pillars of Dharma. Donations made on Parama Ekadashi are believed to grant eternal spiritual merit. Scriptures mention that helping the needy on this day greatly pleases Lord Vishnu.
The Skanda Purana states:
न्यायोपार्जितवित्तस्य दशमांशेन धीमतः।
कर्तव्यो विनियोगश्च ईश्वरप्रीत्यर्थमेव च॥
“A wise person should dedicate a portion of their honestly earned wealth for the pleasure of God and the welfare of society.”
