Papmochani Ekadashi Puja Vidhi

Observing Papmochani Ekadashi involves strict adherence to certain rituals:

Bathing: One of the most significant rituals is bathing in sacred rivers or at home with Gangajal (water from the Ganges), followed by offering argya to Surya. This act symbolizes purification of the body and soul, preparing devotees for spiritual observances.

Fasting: Devotees observe a fast on Papmochani Ekadashi. While some opt for Nirjala (waterless) fasting, others may choose to consume fruits and water. It is essential to abstain from grains and rice on this day. Devotees break their fast the next day, on Dwadashi.

Devotional Practices: On Papmochani Ekadashi, devotees perform rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu with utmost devotion. This includes chanting prayers, reciting Vishnu Sahasranama, and meditating upon the divine.

Legend (Katha) related to Papmochani Ekadashi

The legend of Papmochani Ekadashi tells the story of King Mandhata, who sought freedom from his sins. He approached the sage Lomash, who shared an ancient tale of redemption. It involved the sage Chyavan’s son, Medhavi, who succumbed to the charms of the celestial nymph Manjugosha, abandoning his spiritual practices. When he realized his mistake, he cursed Manjugosha, but later forgave her upon her sincere repentance. Medhavi then enlightened her about Papmochani Ekadashi, a sacred fast that could cleanse one of their sins. Following his advice, Manjugosha observed the fast devoutly, and as a result, she was freed from her curse and returned to her heavenly abode. Inspired by her transformation, Medhavi too observed the fast, finding purification and absolution. This story underscores the significance of Papmochani Ekadashi in offering forgiveness and spiritual upliftment. Just as Manjugosha and Medhavi found redemption, devotees today continue to seek spiritual purification through this revered tradition.
