What are some organizations that help poor students in India?

Education is one of the most significant factors that help in a nation’s development and prosperity. India has a literacy rate of 77.7% which clearly indicates the possibility that there might be one in every four Indians that lack basic education.

In the upcoming years, the country aims to tackle this issue by promoting education of the younger generations. However, poverty can be a huge barrier to this goal.

Despite the government and some of the famous NGOs in India putting forth great efforts, the country still has a long way to go to reach the goal of 100% literacy.

Even though Right to Education mandates free and quality education for all children, around 20 million children do not attend pre-schools, according to a survey from the Ministry of Women and Child Development (2013- 2014).

Despite schools and other programs set up by the government for these poor students, due to lack of quality in education, the learning outcomes are often low. According to UNICEF, in 2019, only 42.5% of children in grade 3 were able to read a grade 1 text.

In order to tackle the challenge of lack of education, many child education NGOs have aimed at reaching out to almost every underprivileged child in the country who lack the opportunity of learning and provide them with quality education. However, for their noble cause, they often require help from individuals, businesses or institutions in the form of donations.

Hence, donating to an NGO working for education can be a great way of helping many poor students. However, with so many NGOs existing, it can often be difficult to find a reliable and good NGO in India that helps poor students.
