Ashadh Amavasya is considered a highly auspicious day in Sanatan Dharma. This day is dedicated specifically to Tarpan, ritual bathing, Jap, Tap, charity, and acts of service. Religious belief holds that acts of charity and service performed with devotion on this sacred occasion pave the way for happiness, prosperity, and spiritual growth in the seeker’s life.
Bathing in holy rivers, worshipping Lord Vishnu, performing Tarpan for ancestors, and helping the destitute, helpless, and needy on this day yield manifold spiritual merit.
Spiritual Significance of Ashadh Amavasya
According to scriptures, Ashadh Amavasya is an excellent opportunity for self-purification, expressing gratitude towards ancestors, and attaining divine grace. Virtuous deeds performed on this day with faith and a spirit of selflessness fill a person’s life with positive energy.
It is believed that charity, service, and good deeds performed on this day yield auspicious results not only for the present life but also for future generations. Worshipping Lord Shri Hari Vishnu and serving the needy brings peace, contentment, and good fortune to one’s life.
Significance of Charity
In Sanatan Dharma, charity is regarded as the supreme duty. Scriptures describe charity thus:
Dānam bhogo nāśastistro gatayo bhavanti vittasya.
Yo na dadāti na bhuṅkte tasya tṛtīyā gatirbhavati.
This means there are only three fates for wealth: charity, proper utilization, and destruction. A person who neither donates their wealth nor utilizes it properly sees their wealth eventually destroyed.
Therefore, charity performed during an auspicious period like Ashadh Amavasya generates imperishable merit and attracts the special grace of the Divine.
