How do I help poor people?

Economically, India is one of the countries that has been showcasing some tremendous improvements over the past few years. Recently, the country even surpassed the UK and became the fifth largest economy in the world (according to the International Monetary Fund). However, despite the rapidly growing economic status of the country, poverty is still one of the biggest challenges that the nation is facing.

Coming from an underprivileged section, millions of people often do not even receive the basic necessities to survive. According to the World poverty clock, there are around 83 million people who live in extreme poverty.

Even though the government and several NGOs have been consistently working towards uplifting these sections, without the public’s support, the goal of eradicating poverty seems nearly impossible.

However, how can one help poor people? Here are some ways that one can consider for helping the underprivileged –

Donation help, especially money donations are one of the most common and easiest ways through which a donor can help the underprivileged.

Nowadays, with the availability of donation sites, the whole procedure of donation has become quick and hassle free. Due to online donations, it has become very easy for one to donate from any part of the country.

Even though monetary donations are the most popular way of donating in India, it is not the way through which one can donate.

There are many NGOs in the country that accept in kind donations too. You can donate toys, blankets, books or any such resources that can be used by the underprivileged people. You can also donate food to the poor or even give away ration to them.

  • Volunteering

If you are someone who is personally willing to serve and work for the underprivileged, then volunteering can be an option for you to consider. While volunteering, you might get a chance to do activities like teaching, distributing food and resources to the needy, and so on which will not just give you the satisfaction of helping someone but would also let you experience the ground reality of many underprivileged in the country.

  • Collection drives

Organising or participating in collection drives for the underprivileged can be a great way of helping them. The donations that you obtain from these drives can be given either directly to the underprivileged or to an NGO that will distribute it to them.

  • Spread awareness through social media

Nowadays, through social media platforms, it has become very easy for one to reach millions of people. Hence, using these platforms, you can easily address the situation of the poor in the country by sharing their stories, narratives, facts, data and so on and encourage people to help them.

  • Sponsor a child

Due to lack of facilities and opportunities, many underprivileged talents in India remain undiscovered. However, if they are given proper support, they will not just lead a better life for themselves but may also take the nation towards the path of prosperity and development.

Hence, if you are someone who has the ability to support or sponsor a talent, then that can be one of the best ways in which you can help improve someone’s life.

If not sponsoring, tutoring your nearby underprivileged students and helping them with their doubts and studies in your free time can be a great way of helping the poor.
