In Indian culture, serving those in need is regarded as an act of seeing Lord Narayan in them. Guided by this belief, Narayan Seva Sansthan began its journey of service on 23 October, 1985 in Udaipur. Today, after 41 years, this journey continues to bring hope to thousands of people in need through treatment, rehabilitation, education, skill development, and social empowerment.
The guiding motto of Narayan Seva Sansthan is “Nar Seva Hi Narayan Seva” (Serving Humanity Is Serving God). This belief lies at the heart of every service initiative undertaken by the organization. Its aim is not merely to provide treatment to people facing physical or financial challenges but also to empower them to lead lives of dignity and self-reliance.
Behind the service journey of Narayan Seva Sansthan lies an incident that changed the course of the life of His Holiness Gurudev Padma Shri Kailash ‘Manav’ Ji.
At a government hospital in Udaipur, he noticed a person in need eating one roti from a plate of food while carefully saving the remaining rotis. Upon speaking with him, Gurudev learned that the man had come to the hospital with other members of his family. With the limited food distributed to patients at the hospital, he was somehow managing to feed his entire family by sharing it among them. This sight deeply moved Gurudev.
He realized that along with patients who come to hospitals for treatment, their family members also face difficult circumstances, and arranging food for them is equally essential. Inspired by this thought, he began encouraging people to contribute “one handful of flour” every day. These small contributions, collected from homes across the community, gradually became a source of food for those in need.
Thus, a small seed of service was planted, which eventually grew into a mighty tree, spreading its branches of compassion and service far and wide.
Narayan Seva Sansthan is committed to providing medical care to persons with disabilities and helping them become an integral part of society. The organization offers treatment and corrective surgeries to individuals affected by congenital physical disabilities, accidents, and other conditions.
Following treatment, those in need are provided with artificial limbs and assistive devices, enabling them to move forward in their daily lives with greater independence. Artificial limbs and callipers developed using modern technology play an important role in making this rehabilitation journey more effective.
The hospital of Narayan Seva Sansthan in Udaipur serves as a key center for this initiative, welcoming people in need of treatment from different parts of the country.
Narayan Seva Sansthan believes that true rehabilitation is complete only when individuals, along with receiving treatment, are empowered to build self-reliant lives. With this vision, the organization conducts various skill development and vocational training activities.
Persons with disabilities and those in need receive training in different skills, including tailoring, computer skills, and mobile phone repair, according to their abilities and interests. These initiatives create opportunities for them to pursue employment and lead independent lives.
As part of its social rehabilitation efforts, the organization also conducts mass weddings. So far, 47 mass weddings have been organized for differently-abled and underprivileged couples, helping them take steps towards a dignified family life.
Disability does not limit a person’s talent or potential. Guided by this belief, Narayan Seva Sansthan provides persons with disabilities with opportunities to participate in sports and showcase their abilities. Activities such as wheelchair cricket, blind cricket, and para swimming offer athletes a platform to demonstrate their skills and pursue their sporting aspirations.
These initiatives also help foster a positive outlook in society towards the abilities and potential of persons with disabilities.
Education is another important dimension of service. The organization works towards providing educational opportunities for children with special needs. Along with educational facilities for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and those with visual impairments, attention is also given to their overall development.
At Narayan Children Academy, an English-medium digital school run by the organization, more than 796 students are receiving free education. Equipped with modern digital resources, the school’s educational approach aims to prepare children to move forward with confidence and adapt to an evolving world.
Narayan Seva Sansthan’s 41-year journey is not merely a count of years. It is a story of countless efforts—where someone received treatment, someone received an artificial limb, a child gained an opportunity for education, a person with a disability acquired new skills, and a family found a new direction for its future.
The organization’s goal remains clear: to provide treatment and comprehensive rehabilitation to persons with disabilities in need. This includes providing artificial limbs through modern technology, promoting self-reliance through skill development, creating opportunities for talent through sports, and strengthening the values of equality and dignity in society.
The spirit of “Ek Mutthi Aata,” which began in Udaipur, has now grown into a broader commitment to service. This journey reminds us that change does not always begin with great resources; it can begin with a small act of compassion and a sincere commitment to serve. Narayan Seva Sansthan’s 41-year journey stands as a testament to the belief that when compassion becomes the foundation of service, even a small initiative can become a source of new hope in countless lives.
Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to you all on the 42nd Foundation Day of Narayan Seva Sansthan.
