In Hinduism, the month of Kartik is considered highly virtuous. The Ekadashi falling in the Shukla Paksha of this month is called Devuthani Ekadashi, which is also known as Prabodhini Ekadashi. Devuthani Ekadashi symbolizes the end of the four-month-long Chaturmas period.
On this day, devotees worship Lord Vishnu, the sustainer of this universe, and Goddess Lakshmi. Along with this, offerings of their favorite items are made. It is said that worshipping Lord Vishnu with a true heart on this day and giving donations to the poor and needy grants the devotee the grace of Lord Narayan.

Mumukshuna cha daatavyam brahmanebhyastathavaham.
