In Indian Sanatan culture, every festival holds within itself a profound message of spiritual consciousness, faith, and life philosophy. One of these sacred festivals is Hanuman Janmotsav, which is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman, the supreme devotee of Lord Rama, the astonishing warrior, and the savior of troubles.

The Divine Incarnation of Hanuman

According to mythological beliefs, Hanuman is considered to be the Rudrasha incarnation of Lord Shiva, who incarnated on earth in the form of a monkey to protect the Dharma. His life is a testament to the truth that when devotion and dedication are combined with power, even the impossible becomes possible.

Celebrated on the full moon day of the Chaitra month, this festival commemorates the divine moment when Hanuman, the son of the wind, was born from the womb of Anjani Mata.

When is Hanuman Jayanti?

The holy festival of Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on Chaitra Purnima. According to the Drik calendar, Chaitra Purnima falls on April 2. Therefore, Hanuman Jayanti will also be celebrated on Thursday, April 2nd.

Childhood Leela

Hanuman’s childhood pranks reflect his divinity. According to a famous legend, as a child, he swallowed the Sun, mistaking it for a red fruit. This plunged the entire universe into darkness. Upon the request of the gods, he freed the Sun. This incident is a testament to his immense strength.

On Hanuman Jayanti, meditate on Hanuman, the son of the wind, saying:

Manojavam Maruttulyavegam, Jitendriyam Buddhimatam Varishtham.
Vataatmajam Vanaryuthmukhyam, Shri Ramdoot Sharanam Prapadye.

Meaning: I take refuge in that son of the wind, the messenger of Shri Ram, who is as swift as the mind, conqueror of the senses, and foremost among the wise.

The Supreme Ideal of Devotion

Hanuman’s entire life was dedicated to the service of Lord Shri Ram. For him, power, knowledge, and accomplishments were merely means. His primary objective was to serve the Lord. He never displayed his strength out of arrogance but instead prioritized humility and dedication in every action.

Goswami Tulsidas called him Mahaprabhu and Mahatapasvi, who still exists in this universe because of his ideals of sacrifice and service. This is why he is worshipped not only as a symbol of strength but also as an ideal devotee.

Spiritual Significance of Hanuman Jayanti

Born on Hanuman Jayanti, Hanuman, revered as Sankatmochan, is considered to remove all suffering from his devotees. It is believed that negative forces cannot enter a home where the Hanuman Chalisa is regularly recited. His name itself is a divine mantra, capable of dispelling fear, sorrow, and distress.

Procedure of Worship

On Hanuman Jayanti, bathe in the morning and take a vow to observe the fast. Afterward, light a lamp in front of the idol or picture of Hanuman and perform the prescribed puja.

And finally—

अतुलितबलधामं हेमशाईलाभदेहं, दनुजवनक्रिषानुं ज्ञानिनामग्रगण्यम्.
Sakalgunanidhanam vanaranamadhisham, Raghupatipriyabhaktam vatjaatam namami.

I bow to Shri Hanuman ji, the abode of immense power, whose body is as bright as a mountain of gold, who is the fire for the forest in the form of demons, who is foremost among the wise, who is the embodiment of all the virtues, who is the master of monkeys, and the beloved devotee of Shri Raghunath ji, the son of Pawan.
