In the Sanatan tradition, Ekadashi is considered a sacred occasion to receive the blessings of Lord Hari. Among these sacred dates, Varuthini Ekadashi holds special significance. This Ekadashi falls during the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Vaishakha and, according to religious scriptures, is considered to destroy sins and bestow good fortune and prosperity in life.
It is believed that fasting, chanting, penance, and charity performed with devotion and faith on this day removes suffering from a person’s life and leads them on the path of righteousness and virtue. Varuthini Ekadashi brings spiritual awakening and positive change in the devotee’s life.
The Importance of Varuthini Ekadashi
The scriptures state that observing the fast on Varuthini Ekadashi liberates a person from sins and bestows virtue and fame. On this day, worshipping Lord Vishnu with rituals, offering Tulsi leaves, donating lamps, and chanting mantras are considered highly auspicious and fruitful.
Devotees who sincerely chant the mantra “Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya” and perform charitable acts on this day are blessed with happiness and peace and receive the special blessings of Lord Hari.
The Importance of Charity
In the Sanatan tradition, charity is considered the best deed. Helping the needy and feeding the hungry on Ekadashi is considered true devotion. Selfless service purifies the heart and brings a sense of contentment to life.
Describing the importance of charity, Goswami Tulsidas said:
Tulsi, if birds drink, the river’s water does not diminish.
Those who give charity, Raghuveer’s wealth does not diminish.
That is, just as the water of the river does not decrease when birds drink it, similarly, when you have God’s blessings, charity and donations never lead to a shortage of wealth in your home.
