Ekadashi fasts have special importance in Sanatan Dharma. Among these, Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, which is called Rama Ekadashi, is considered to be the provider of salvation and destroyer of sins. On this day, by worshiping Lord Vishnu and his Shakti Goddess Lakshmi, the devotee attains worldly happiness, prosperity and salvation.

 

Meaning and mythological importance of Rama Ekadashi

‘Rama’ means Lakshmi ji. This Ekadashi is the best opportunity to get the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi along with Lord Vishnu. According to the story described in Padma Purana and Skanda Purana, by fasting on this Ekadashi, all the sins of the devotee are destroyed, ancestors attain salvation and one gets a place in the abode of Lord Shri Hari. Explaining the importance of this fast, Shri Krishna himself has said that the person who observes the fast of Rama Ekadashi with devotion, gets results equal to that of Ashwamedha Yagya.

 

Importance of donation, service and philanthropy

Rama Ekadashi is not just a day of fasting and fasting, but it is also a special occasion of service, charity and philanthropy. On this day, donations made in the form of food donation, clothing donation, help to the needy, service to the disabled and devotion to the helpless are hundred times fruitful. In Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Lord Shri Krishna has said while explaining the importance of charity –

‘Yagyadanapata:karma na tyajyam karyameva tat.
Yajno daanam tapaschaiva pavanani manishinaam.

That is, Yagya, charity and penance – these three deeds should never be abandoned because they make the seeker pure and holy.
