In the virtuous traditions of Sanatan Dharma, Kharmas, also known as Malmas, is considered a sacred month for worshipping God. This year, this holy period will be from December 16, 2025, to January 14, 2026. This period is dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu, penance, meditation, and charity. The scriptures clearly state that auspicious events are postponed during this time, while spiritual worship and service are given supreme importance.
Kharmas is truly a month of purity, restraint, and compassion. The virtuous deeds performed during this period not only bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to a person’s life, but also purify and enlighten his soul. The Vedas and Puranas state that during this period, it is considered the ultimate duty for Brahmins to donate to the poor, helpless, and destitute. Donating with pure intentions during Kharmas is the best way to receive the eternal blessings of Lord Vishnu and the Sun God.

Kharmas occurs twice a year when the Sun is in Sagittarius or Pisces. This time, on December 16th, the Sun God will enter Sagittarius, marking the beginning of Kharmas. On January 14th, on Makar Sankranti, the Sun God will enter Capricorn, marking the end of Kharmas. During this period, worshipping the Sun God and Lord Vishnu brings progress and prosperity in all areas of life. Those with a weak Sun position in their horoscopes derive special benefits from donations, rituals, and Surya worship performed during this month.
Religious texts state that donations made during Kharmas are inexhaustible and their rewards are multiplied. Feeding Brahmins, the poor, the helpless, and needy children, or providing any kind of assistance, is considered extremely auspicious during this time. Such donations not only open the door to happiness, prosperity, and good fortune in a person’s life, but also fulfill all their desires.
