Devuthani Ekadashi

Ekadashi fasts have immense importance in Sanatan Dharma. Among these, Devuthani Ekadashi, which is celebrated on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, is considered especially important. This day symbolizes the awakening of Lord Vishnu, when Lord Vishnu wakes up on this day after four months of yogic sleep. By fasting and worshiping on this day, a person gets worldly happiness, destruction of sins and salvation.

Mythological importance of Devuthani Ekadashi

On the day of Devuthani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu wakes up from yogic sleep, due to which this fast is considered especially virtuous. It is believed that by fasting on this day, all the sins of a person are eliminated and by the grace of Lord Vishnu, he gets happiness, prosperity and good health in life. By observing fast on this day, the sins of all the births of a person are destroyed and one attains a place in the supreme abode of Lord Vishnu.

Importance of donation, service and philanthropy

The fast of Devuthani Ekadashi is not only a symbol of fasting, worship and chanting, but it is also a symbol of service and charity. On this day, giving food and other help to the poor, the needy, the helpless, the disabled, the elderly and the orphans brings immense virtue. Explaining the importance of charity in Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Lord Shri Krishna said-

‘Yagyadanatapa:karma na tyajyam karyamev tat.
Yajno daanam tapaschaiva pavanani manishinaam.

That is, Yagya, charity and penance – these three actions are not worth giving up, but they must be done because they purify the sages.
