Bhadrapada Purnima is considered to be a particularly pious day in Hinduism for service and charity. This day marks the beginning of the month of Ashwin and provides a unique opportunity for Pitra Tarpan, bathing, charity and social service.
There is a mythological belief that charity done on this day gives many times more fruits. Bhadrapada month is considered to be the favorite month of Lord Krishna himself and on this Purnima, worshiping Shri Hari and serving the poor and the disabled leads to happiness, prosperity and spiritual balance in life.
Spiritual significance of Bhadrapada Purnima
The day of Bhadrapada Purnima is also considered to be the best time for spiritual peace, attainment of salvation and removal of Pitra Dosh. The deeds of service and charity done on this day liberate one from the sins of many births and one receives the blessings of God.
It is said in the scriptures that bathing, serving Brahmins, offering water to ancestors, giving donations and feeding the disabled on this day removes all kinds of sorrows and poverty and God’s grace remains in life.
Importance of donation from mythological point of view
Alpampi Kshitau Kshiptam Vatbeej Pravardhate.
Jalyogaat Yatha Daanaat Punya Vrikshapi Vardhate॥
That is, just like the small seed of the Banyan tree becomes a huge tree after being irrigated with water, similarly small efforts of donation and service also become a Banyan tree of virtue and good fortune in life.
Become a part of virtue by feeding the poor and disabled children
On the holy day of Bhadrapada Purnima, feeding disabled, helpless, orphan and poor children is the simplest and most effective way to get God’s blessings. Participate in the service project of Narayan Seva Sansthan to provide lifelong food (one day in a year) to disabled children and take advantage of this holy opportunity.
