Bhadrapada Amavasya is a very pious and revered date in Hinduism. On this day, the way to get rid of ancestral debt is shown through tarpan, bath, meditation, fasting, service and donation. According to the scriptures, the virtuous deeds done on Amavasya Tithi give manifold fruits and blessings of ancestors are received.
This Amavasya of Bhadrapada month is especially considered best for the peace of those departed souls, whose Shradh, Tarpan or Pinddaan could not be done properly. On this day, the soul is purified by service, penance and donation and the mind gets peace.

It is said in the Shrimad Bhagwat Gita—
Daatvyamiti Yaddanam Diyate’Anupkarine.
Deshe Kale Cha Patre Cha Taddanam Sattvikam Smritam.
