Akshaya Tritiya

In the divine traditions of Sanatan Dharma, Akshaya Tritiya is revered as a very auspicious and virtuous date. This day is considered to be “Akshaya” i.e. one that provides never-ending fruits. This is the reason why every auspicious deed on this day is infinitely fruitful.

This date is not only a symbol of new beginnings and prosperity, but this day is also a priceless opportunity to attain transcendental virtue and divine grace. It is mentioned in the Puranas that on this day, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Parashurama Ji, appeared and pleased with the penance of Bhagirath, Mother Ganga also descended on earth on this auspicious date.

The glory of donation

It is said in the scriptures –

Yavajjivam Daanashilata Dharmasya Moolam Smritam

As long as there is life, the tendency to donate is the root of religion.

Donating on Akshaya Tritiya is a means of purification of soul, purity of mind and progress of life. On this day, food donation done with a spirit of service is infinitely fruitful.

Special day of Maa Lakshmi

Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be the favorite day of Maa Lakshmi. Those who donate a part of their wealth on this day in the service of the needy, poor, helpless and disabled, Maa Lakshmi provides eternal wealth and good domestic happiness to their home. The importance of donation has been explained in detail in various texts of Sanatan tradition.

Goswami Tulsidas ji has mentioned the importance of donation and written –

Tulsi, the water of the bird does not decrease even if it is drunk.

Daan diye dhan na ghate jo sahay Raghuveer.

That is, just as the water of the river never decreases due to the drinking of the birds, in the same way, by donating with the grace of Lord Ram, there is never a shortage of wealth in the house, rather it increases even more.
