Shravan Putrada Ekadashi

Mythological context and importance of Shravan Putrada Ekadashi

According to the story described in Padma Purana and Sri Vishnu Purana, King Mahijit of Mahishmati city did not have children. He asked Maharishi Lomash for a solution. Maharishi instructed him to observe Shravan Putrada Ekadashi fast. The king observed the fast according to the method and with the grace of Lord Vishnu, he got a worthy child.

The importance of this fast is not limited to the happiness of children, but it destroys all kinds of troubles, diseases, poverty, and sins in life. On this day, devotees become eligible for the grace of God by fasting, chanting, meditation and service.

Importance of donation and service

The day of Shravan Putrada Ekadashi is not only a day of fasting and fasting, but also of donation and service. The donation done on this day is more virtuous than a thousand yagyas and pilgrimage baths. It is said in the scriptures—

Na hi daanasamam tirtham na hi daanasamam tapah.

Na hi daanasamam yagna na hi daanaatparam sukham॥

That is, there is no pilgrimage, penance, yagya or happiness greater than donation in this world.
