In Hinduism, the festival of Navratri is a unique confluence of power and devotion. Navratri occurs four times a year, with the Chaitra month’s Navratri holding special spiritual significance. This Navratri, which begins on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, also marks the beginning of the New Year. Positive energy permeates the atmosphere from this day, and devotees worship various forms of Goddess Durga for nine days.
According to the calendar, this year, Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Tithi will begin at 6:52 am on March 19th and will continue until 4:52 am on March 20th. According to the Udaya Tithi, Navratri begins on March 19th. This nine-day holy festival will conclude on Ram Navami on March 27th.
Chaitra Navratri is a festival of devotion to Goddess Amba, as well as a festival of restraint and meditation. Worship and chanting performed during these days are considered manifoldly fruitful.
The first day of the Navratri festival is crucial for Ghatasthapana, or the installation of the Kalash. This marks the beginning of the nine-day puja. This year, the auspicious time for Ghatasthapana will be from 6:52 am to 7:43 am. Additionally, the Kalash can also be installed during the Abhijit Muhurta in the afternoon, from 12:05 pm to 12:53 pm. According to scriptures, a Kalash installed properly during this auspicious time brings happiness, prosperity, and spiritual energy to the home.
• On the first day of Navratri, wake up in the Brahma Muhurta, bathe, and wear clean clothes. Purify the place of worship with Ganga water and spread a red cloth. After this, install the idol or picture of Goddess Durga.
• Now, fill an earthen pot with clean soil and sow barley in it. This barley is considered a symbol of prosperity and progress. Then, fill a copper or clay pot with water and add betel nut, a coin, and unbroken rice grains. Place mango leaves on the mouth of the pot and place a coconut wrapped in a red cloth.
• Place this pot near the goddess’s seat. After this, light an eternal flame, which should burn continuously for nine days. If an eternal flame is not possible, then light a lamp every day during worship.
• During worship, chant the mantra “Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Vichche” with devotion. Also, recite the Durga Saptashati and conclude the puja with an aarti.
Reciting the Durga Saptashati is considered the best way to receive the blessings of Goddess Amba. This recitation enhances mental strength and protects against fear, obstacles, and negative energy. Regular recitation increases self-confidence and removes enemy obstacles. It is believed that this recitation protects against diseases and brings peace to the mind. A devotee who recites it with devotion and faith will surely experience positive changes in their life.
During the nine days of Navratri, nine forms of the Goddess are worshipped.
Day 1: Worship of Goddess Shailputri bestows stability and strength.
Day 2: Worship of Goddess Brahmacharini inspires self-control and penance.
Day 3: Worship of Goddess Chandraghanta dispels fear and increases courage.
Day 4: The grace of Goddess Kushmanda bestows knowledge and prosperity.
Day 5: Worship of Goddess Skandamata bestows the blessings of childbearing and motherhood.
Day 6: Goddess Katyayani removes obstacles related to marriage.
Day 7: Goddess Kalratri protects from negative forces.
Day 8: Worshipping Goddess Mahagauri brings purity and peace to life.
Day 9: Goddess Siddhidatri blesses with all accomplishments and perfection.
The Ashtami and Mahanavami dates of Navratri are considered especially fruitful. During these days, there is a tradition of Kanya Pujan, in which young girls are worshipped as manifestations of the Goddess. They are invited to homes and offered food, clothes, and Dakshina.
Navratri is a festival of spiritual practice as well as service. The scriptures state that donations made during these nine days bring virtuous results along with the blessings of the Goddess. Donations to the needy are considered true worship of Goddess Durga. Helping girls, the helpless, and the disabled is considered extremely virtuous. Donations made with a spirit of service not only empower society but also open the path to happiness and prosperity in the life of the seeker.
Please, on the auspicious occasion of Navratri, support the operations of specially abled girls who have come to Narayan Seva Sansthan for treatment.
Chaitra Navratri is a great opportunity for spiritual progress. When we surrender to the Mother with a true heart, the negativity in our lives automatically begins to dissipate. During these nine days, self-control, fasting, chanting, and meditation purify the soul. With the grace of Mother Durga, new energy, courage, and positivity are infused into life.
On this sacred occasion, let us all invoke Mother Durga with faith and devotion and offer our devotion at her feet.
