Do you want to help the poor and needy in India?

According to the World poverty clock, more than 80 million people live in extreme poverty in India. This extreme poverty not only implies lack of money and resources, but also showcases lack of opportunities given to these underprivileged sections of the country.

The condition of extreme poverty has existed in India for many years. Lack of education, lack of basic necessities, corruption, unemployment, overpopulation are some of the root causes of extreme poverty in the country. However, that does not mean that the country does not have funds at all.

According to the World Inequality Report, the top 10% in India possess 57% of national income while the bottom 50% only have their hold on 13%. Such a wide inequality gap is quite alarming for a country that aims to eradicate the issue of poverty.

Even though, over the past few years, the Indian government has come up with many schemes to uplift the poor, it still has a long way to go. However, the goal of eradicating poverty might be achieved sooner, if every capable individual feels the necessity to donate.

For a donor who wants to contribute (in the form of money, resources or time) to a noble cause, here are some of the things that one can do-

Donations

India is a diverse country of different religions and cultures that has a deeply rooted concept of charity. Every year, millions of individuals in the country donate to charity

At present, there are millions of NGOs and other governmental organisations that accept charity donations from the public. Narayan Seva Sansthan is an example of this. A donor can either donate online or offline to these organisations.

If you are looking for more details on donations and charitable organisations, you can try searching about them online with titles like ‘online donations India’, ‘NGOs to donate’, and so on.

Even though monetary donations to notified charitable trusts can provide you with tax benefits (under section 80G). It is not the only mode of donating. One can also donate resources like clothes, toys, books and so on.

Volunteering

Apart from donating, volunteering can be a great way to help poor people too. You can look for organisations whose purpose and work you deeply connect with and express your will to work as a volunteer for them.

Spread awareness

In India, the underprivileged remain unaware of many policies and issues (like significance of education, government policies for the poor, their rights, and so on). Hence, as an individual, you can communicate and explain to them about such topics.

You can also encourage other people to donate their money, resources or effort by sharing stories,  data, narratives, and facts about the underprivileged of the country.

Teaching

Even though India has a literacy rate of 77.7%, there are still many people from the weaker sections of the society that do not even have the basic access to education.

There are many children who lack education or are not doing well in academics as they do not have anyone to help them.

By teaching such individuals, you can have a huge positive impact over their lives.

Apart from this, other ways like organising and participating in fundraising events and collection drives can be a good way of helping the poor.
