  Emergence

The Emergence of Narayan sewa sansthan is not less than a miracle Dr. Kailash Manav “the founder” of NSS was, then, employed in Post and telegraph dept. & was posted at Sirohi, Rajasthan .
In May 1976,while going to Sirohi he happened to see a very serious accident on account of a collision between a truck & a passenger bus near Pindwara enroute Sirohi.Dr. Kailash Manav immediately rushed to rescue the injured persons despite many odds against him and get the injured people admitted at civil hospital, Sirohi. He would visit the hospital everyday to enquire about the injured people. Owing to some urgent commitment he could not visit the hospital one evening. Early next day morning he heard a knock at his door , he opened the door  and found a frail man standing in front with a girl aged about 10-12 yrs. sobbing with tears in eyes. Dr. Kailash Manav could identify the girl as one of the injured patients admitted to the hospital. He asked the man the purpose of his visit to him so early in the morning. The man politely replied- “Babuji!  You did not come to hospital to visit us yesterday evening, my daughter is, since then, crying to see you & wanting to know as to why you did not visit her yesterday”. This man and the girl were totally unknown to Dr. Kailash Manav. The mere fact- that his visit to the hospital during the last 8-10 days had endeared him to the unknown people so much was a matter of great emotional feeling for- Dr. Kailash Manav is very sentimental and kind hearted right from his childhood, after this incident. Dr. Kailash Manav resolved within to visit the hospital everyday irrespective of what may happen. Days passed on with Dr.Kailash Manav visiting the hospital everyday. After a few months, Dr. Kailash Manav was transferred to Udaipur.   Here, too, he continued with his practice of visiting the hospital every day.  He would go to government hospital, Udaipur everyday, would enquire about the welfare of the patients, so write letters for them, and would fetch medicines for them from the medical stores and things like this went on..

A historic event was awaiting for Dr. Kailash Manav for  total change in his life. As usual once when he was in the hospital ward talking to patients, the kitchen staff came in toserve food to the patients. During this period he saw an old man eating one chapatti and hiding 2 chapattis by the side of the pillow. Curious to know the reason, to behind this, Dr. Kailash Manav approached the old man whose name was KISHNA JI BHIL “Baa sab. (Sir) what is the matter, are you not hungry enough! Why have you kept remaining chapattis beside the pillow? The old man – feeling frightened at this, spoke to Dr. Kailash Manav with folded hands and tears in his eyes- Babuji! I am still quite hungry, but my brother and son who have come to take care of me have nothing to eat. Whatever money we had borrowed has been spent on my medicines. They are keeping hungry all the time I have kept these chapattis for them. The man burst into tears as he could not take well with his poverty and pitiable condition. This event moved Dr. Kailash Manav heart very deeply. Hecame home and next day morning, while they were performing a YAJNA to coincide with the DASHAHRA DAY- he narrated this incident to his friends. They all resolved to help poor patients like KISHNA JI. They decided to collect a handful of flour from the houses of neighbors, bake chapattis from this flour and distributed it among attendants of the poor patients in hospital every day.

This was on 23rd October 1985 - which made history, the collection of a handful of flour and service to the poor patients was given the name of “NARAYAN SEWA” Smt. Kamla Devi Agarwal, the pious hearted wife of Dr. Kailash Manav stood by him in this humanitarian endeavor and his school going daughter Kalpana (now Mrs. Kalpana Goyal) always at the command of her parents stood ready to assist her mother in baking chapattis.

Thus emerged “NARAYAN SEWA” with a handful of flour- which stands today as “Narayan Sewa Sansthan, Trust”, Udaipur with many records, achievements, highlights and landmarks to its credit.
